Veteran actor Jide Kosoko has announced that the remains of his colleague, Taiwo “Ogogo” Hassan, will be buried in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday. The announcement came after the actor’s death at age 66, which was confirmed by his daughter Kira during an Instagram Live session on Sunday.
Burial Arrangements Announced
In a statement posted on his Instagram page on Sunday, Kosoko said Ogogo’s remains will be taken to Ilaro on Sunday ahead of a special prayer session scheduled to hold at the Ilaro Pavilion at 11 a.m. on Monday. The statement read: “With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at 3:00 p.m. today, Sunday, 23rd August 2026. At 66 years. His remains will be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, today, where special prayers will take place at the pavilion in Ilaro tomorrow.”
“Date: Monday, 24th August 2026. Time: 11:00 a.m. Venue: Pavilion, Ilaro, Ogun State. We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and gives his family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen,” Kosoko wrote.
Long Battle with Illness
Ogogo had spoken publicly about his experience with illness. During an interview with Oyinmomo TV, he revealed that he spent seven years battling a chronic ulcer, describing the period as one of the darkest chapters of his life. According to him, the illness weakened him so severely that he could barely eat and survived mainly on pap. He said he sought treatment from different places and recalled episodes of vomiting blood and experiencing sharp pains in his chest.
His condition also affected his ability to observe his religious duties normally. As a Muslim, he said he had to pray while sitting instead of adopting the usual position required during prayers. Ogogo expressed gratitude to those who stood by him during the illness, saying their support helped him avoid selling his property to pay for treatment. He also recalled how convinced he had become that he would die, saying he threw away his Mecca teeth because of the fear.
Family History and Background
The actor also spoke about his family history, revealing that his mother had 13 children and lived long enough to witness the deaths of 10 of them. In another interview, he said his mother gave birth to four sets of twins and that he was the only surviving child among those multiple births.
Ogogo began acting in 1981 while working as a mechanic. He eventually left his job at the Water Corporation in 1994 to pursue acting as a full-time career. He attended Christ Church School in Ilaro for his primary education and Gazikia College in Lagos for his secondary education. He later studied at a technical college before working as an automobile mechanic at the corporation for about 13 years.
Career and Legacy
Taiwo Hassan was born on 31 October 1959 in Ilaro, Ogun State. He had a twin brother and came from a family in which twins were common, as both his father and grandfather were twins. Over the course of his career, Ogogo appeared in numerous films, including “Atitebi”, “Agbelebu”, “Agbo-Odaju”, “Danfo Driver”, “Owo Blow”, “Amerah”, “Aníkúlápó”, “Bank Alert”, “IGE”, and “Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre”, among others.
The burial will take place in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, following the special prayer session at the Ilaro Pavilion. The actor’s death has been confirmed by his daughter Kira and colleague Saidi Balogun, with the family and friends now preparing to lay him to rest in his hometown.
