Explosion Rocks Kaduna Motor Park, Destroys Three CNG-Powered Luxury Buses
An early morning explosion struck Mando Motor Park in Kaduna on Easter Sunday, resulting in the destruction of three Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered luxury buses. The incident, which occurred around 3:00 am, has been confirmed by the Kaduna State Police Command as not involving a bomb, contrary to initial reports.
Details of the Incident
The explosion targeted buses belonging to the Silver Transport Company, which were parked and prepared for interstate trips later in the day. A manager from a logistics company operating within the park, who spoke anonymously, revealed that the vehicles were stationary at the time of the blast. He expressed relief that no individuals were inside the buses during the explosion, stating, "These vehicles are using CNG. We are not matured enough to use them."
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving reports of the loud sound, detectives from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) were promptly dispatched to the scene. Police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan provided preliminary findings, indicating that the explosion was caused by the overfilling of a gas tank in an LNG-propelled luxury bus owned by Silver Luxury Travel. He emphasized, "The vehicle has since been evacuated to a safe location, and the area secured. No casualties or loss of property were recorded, and normal activities have resumed in the area."
Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact circumstances and prevent future occurrences. Additionally, the bomb disposal unit was deployed to the scene to ensure safety and rule out any malicious intent.
Public Advisory and Safety Measures
The police have urged the public to verify information before sharing, particularly on security-related matters, to avoid spreading unverified reports that could cause unnecessary panic. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the safety and maturity of CNG technology in transportation, as noted by the anonymous manager.
Operatives from relevant agencies are continuing their assessment to determine the full extent of damages and implement stricter safety protocols for CNG vehicles in the region.
