Kaduna Police Clarify Mando Motor Park Explosion, Rule Out Bomb Blast
The Kaduna State Police Command has moved swiftly to allay public fears following an early morning explosion at Mando Motor Park, clarifying that the incident was not a bomb blast but rather linked to a gas-powered vehicle. In an official statement, the Police Command emphasized that reports suggesting alternative causes for the explosion were misleading and inaccurate.
Incident Details and Immediate Response
The explosion occurred around 3:00 a.m. on April 5, 2026, at Silver Luxury Travel, located within Mando Garage in Kaduna. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene upon receiving the initial report. "Preliminary findings revealed that the incident involved a gas-powered luxury bus belonging to Silver Luxury Travel, which exploded due to overfilling of its compressed natural gas (CNG) tank," Hassan explained.
He further detailed that the affected vehicle has been evacuated to a safe location, and the area has been secured to ensure public safety. "No casualties or loss of life were recorded, and normal activities have resumed in the area," Hassan stated, reassuring residents and travelers.
Investigation and Safety Measures
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a full investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to implement measures to prevent a recurrence. As part of standard safety procedures, the bomb disposal unit of the Nigeria Police Force has been deployed to the site to conduct thorough checks and ensure no further threats exist.
Hassan also highlighted the importance of verifying information before sharing, warning that unverified reports—especially on security matters—can trigger unnecessary panic and disrupt public order. The command urged the public to rely on official sources for accurate updates.
Context and Implications
This incident underscores the growing use of CNG-powered vehicles in Nigeria as an alternative to traditional fuels, raising questions about safety protocols and maintenance standards. While the explosion caused damage to two buses, the quick response by police and emergency services helped prevent any injuries or broader disruptions.
Authorities are now focusing on enhancing safety regulations for gas-powered vehicles to avoid similar incidents in the future, emphasizing the need for proper training and adherence to filling guidelines.
