Kano APC Official Found Dead in Abuja Hotel Elevator During Party Convention
The newly elected deputy Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Barr. Abdulsalam Ginsau, has been found dead in an elevator at an Abuja hotel. His lifeless body was discovered on Saturday by hotel management after he went missing during the APC national convention.
Discovery of the Tragic Incident
Barr. Ginsau, who was part of the Kano delegation attending the recent APC convention in Abuja, arrived on Thursday evening. Concerns arose when he failed to appear at the convention ground on Friday morning, and his phone line was unreachable. The organizing secretary of the party, Kabiru Zawaciki, confirmed that efforts to locate Ginsau at the hotel were unsuccessful, even after party representatives compelled the hotel management to open his room with a master key.
Zawaciki narrated, "He was supposed to join us at the convention ground on Friday morning from his hotel. Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found. We were worried about his whereabouts, and it took us a while to visit the hotel. The room was locked, but he was not inside. We evacuated his belongings and hoped he would be found."
Circumstances Surrounding the Death
On Saturday evening, police contacted party officials to identify Ginsau's body at a divisional post near the hotel. Zawaciki explained that hotel management found him dead in the elevator. He speculated that Ginsau might have suffocated due to a possible power outage and system failure in the elevator.
The body was initially deposited at the national hospital for a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of death. Zawaciki added, "We have remained in Abuja since Saturday on the instruction of party leadership to carry out necessary medical investigations. An autopsy has been conducted, and we are waiting for the results."
Legal Actions and Delayed Burial
Legal proceedings have been initiated by Ginsau's lawyer colleagues against the hotel management, who have not provided satisfactory responses to questions about the death. This has contributed to a delay in the burial. The body is scheduled to arrive in Kano on Wednesday evening for burial on Thursday.
Party and Government Response
The spokesperson of APC in Kano, Auwal Sani Soja, stated that the party has launched a proper investigation into the circumstances leading to Ginsau's death. A committee has been constituted at the state level to collaborate with security agencies. The Kano State Government has also reached out to the family and is working to uncover the details.
Speaking on behalf of the family, guardian Hamza Haladu described the development as shocking, noting that Ginsau was full of life before his trip. He mentioned that the state government has intervened, with the governor assuring that no stone will be left unturned in determining the cause of death.
