Deputy Commander General of the Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. He confirmed that some of those detained were not residents of Kano but had traveled from other states to the hotel. The statement highlighted concerns over the allocation of rooms to underage youths, a practice the board intends to investigate further.
Dr. Aminuddeen stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the culpability of each suspect. The board plans to take appropriate legal action based on the findings.
Legal Process and Penalties
The Deputy Commander General explained that individuals found guilty will face charges in court. However, first-time offenders may be given an opportunity for reform through counseling. Their parents will be invited to take custody of them, emphasizing the board's focus on rehabilitation for minor infractions.
This operation is part of the Kano Hisbah Board's broader mandate to enforce Islamic moral codes within the state, including the prohibition of activities considered immoral under Sharia law. The agency has conducted similar raids in the past, targeting hotels, clubs, and public spaces.
