Kano Police Launch Investigation Into Death of 28-Year-Old Man Found Hanging

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old man, Mubarak Hamisu, whose body was found hanging from a tree in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of Tarauni Local Government Area.

According to police spokesperson CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command received a report from the Divisional Police Officer in Tarauni at approximately 6:10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The information originated from residents of Ja'oji Quarters in Gyadi-Gyadi, who alerted authorities to the discovery.

Police Response and Initial Findings

Detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they found the victim unresponsive. CSP Kiyawa stated that preliminary observations indicated no physical signs of violence on the body, leading to an initial suspicion of suicide.

The victim was evacuated to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel officially certified him dead. Following standard procedures, the corpse was subsequently released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

CSP Kiyawa emphasized that a thorough investigation into the incident has commenced, with assurances that further developments will be communicated to the public as the inquiry progresses.

Family Expresses Doubts and Observations

Muhammad Ghali Abdulwahab, an uncle of the deceased, provided additional context regarding the family's perspective on the tragic event. He recounted receiving a call informing him that "Dan Kurma" had been found hanging, prompting him to rush to the scene immediately.

"We woke up to the unfortunate incident," Abdulwahab stated. "We took him to the hospital, where he was certified dead. We later went to the police station to give our statement and then returned home. He was 28 years old. We do not know what exactly happened."

According to family accounts, the victim's grandmother reported that he had returned home the previous night with a friend's bicycle before going out again. She had not seen him since that time until his body was discovered the following morning.

The family expressed skepticism about the suicide theory, with Abdulwahab noting, "We cannot say for certain what happened, but we do not believe he took his own life."

Mysterious Mark Raises Questions

During interactions with police investigators, family members were asked about a mark observed on the victim's neck and whether there had been any previous attempts on his life. The family initially stated they were unaware of any such incidents.

However, when preparing the body for burial, family members noticed the mark themselves. Abdulwahab revealed that one of his brothers recalled seeing the mark previously and had questioned the victim about it at that time, but received no explanation.

"It appears there may have been an earlier incident involving him," Abdulwahab commented, while clarifying that "For now, we are not suspecting anyone."

The family has pledged full cooperation with security agencies as investigations continue to determine the precise circumstances surrounding Mubarak Hamisu's death.
