Former glamour model Katie Price has been banned from driving for the seventh time, following her failure to respond to police correspondence regarding a speeding violation. The 47-year-old celebrity was disqualified for a period of six months after a vehicle registered in her name, a Ford Capri, was recorded travelling at 80mph on the A64 near Stutton in North Yorkshire.
Police Request Ignored Leads to Conviction
Authorities contacted Price to request confirmation of the driver's identity, but no response was received. Consequently, she was prosecuted and convicted for failing to provide information to the police. The court additionally mandated that she pay fines and costs exceeding £1,000.
A History of Driving Offences
This latest disqualification contributes to a lengthy record of driving offences that dates back to 2010, with cumulative bans totalling more than six years. Previous incidents include:
- Speeding violations
- Driving while disqualified
- Drink-driving offences
- Failing to identify drivers in multiple cases
In 2019, Price admitted to driving while disqualified, resulting in another ban, and was later convicted of being drunk in charge of a vehicle. A judge at that time dismissed her explanation that another person had been driving, labelling her account as "not plausible." She has also faced penalties for driving without a valid licence or insurance, and in 2021 received a suspended prison sentence after a crash where she admitted to driving under the influence.
Recent Legal Proceedings
Her most recent conviction was processed through the Single Justice Procedure, where cases are adjudicated by magistrates without a full court hearing. Magistrate Claire Sagar found Price guilty of failing to respond to police and imposed financial penalties, while the original speeding charge was withdrawn.
Financial and Personal Challenges
Beyond her driving record, Price has encountered significant financial difficulties, including bankruptcy proceedings. Although her bankruptcies from 2019 and 2024 have been discharged, she remains under a court order to repay debts until February 2027. She has previously stated that her extensive driving convictions have severely hindered her ability to obtain car insurance.
