The Katsina State Police Command has announced the arrest of 225 suspected criminals and the rescue of 17 abducted individuals during the month of May this year.
Press Briefing Highlights
DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the command's spokesperson, disclosed these achievements during a press briefing on Thursday evening. He stated that the command received 150 major cases, all of which were acted upon, with 109 cases already charged to court for prosecution.
Arrests and Recoveries
Within the period under review, the command recovered 466 suspected rustled animals, three motor vehicles, 22 motorcycles, and 170 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Aliyu detailed that the 225 arrested suspects included seven suspected kidnappers, 10 suspected armed robbers, one suspected armed bandit, two suspected informants, 21 drug peddlers, 10 murder suspects, 36 rape/sodomy suspects, 13 social miscreants, and 130 suspects for other criminal offenses.
Rescue Operations
The command successfully rescued 17 kidnapped victims, who have since been debriefed, medically examined, and reunited with their families. Other recovered items included 20 laptops, two GSM phones, one master key, one scanner, four bags of vandalized span wire, 141 pieces of Exhole tablets, 190 sachets of Diazaparm, 49 D5 tablets, 133 Paragablin tablets, and five packs of Dexametason (six million pieces).
Security Initiatives
To combat criminal activities, the command launched the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) and intensified intelligence-led operations. Community-policing engagements were sustained to enhance trust and intelligence flow. Aliyu attributed these achievements to collaboration with sister security agencies, joint patrols, and real-time intelligence sharing, which improved response time and operational effectiveness.
Appeal to Residents
Aliyu urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to the police via the command's hotline. He warned criminals to desist from all acts of criminality or face the full weight of the law.
