The Kwara State Police Command has officially denied reports circulating on social media that suspected Boko Haram members were arrested in Ilorin, the state capital. In a statement released on Wednesday, the command's spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, clarified that no such arrests occurred anywhere within the state.
Official Clarification
Ejire-Adeyemi emphasized that the information spreading across various social media platforms is completely unverified and lacks any factual basis. The police command described these reports as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
Warning Against Misinformation
The police warned members of the public to refrain from sharing fear-inducing information that could disrupt public peace and security. They stressed that spreading unconfirmed reports undermines the efforts of security agencies to maintain order and stability in the state.
Commitment to Security
The command reassured residents that security agencies in Kwara remain vigilant and fully committed to protecting lives and property. They urged citizens to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear, as the situation in the state is under control.
Advice to the Public
In the statement, the police advised the public to rely solely on credible and official sources for security-related updates. They noted that misinformation poses a significant threat to public confidence and the overall security architecture of the state.
The command called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities through appropriate channels, rather than spreading unverified claims on social media.
