Lagos Crime Spree: Suspect Re-Offends Before Court, Teen Nabbed in N20m Ransom Sting
In a shocking turn of events in Lagos, a 27-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Ogundipe, has returned to criminal activities just days before his scheduled court appearance. Ogundipe was arrested on April 6, 2026, in Egbin Community, where a search at the point of arrest led to the recovery of a locally made pistol and two live cartridges.
This arrest comes despite Ogundipe being previously arraigned in 2025 for conspiracy and stealing, with his case still ongoing. His next court hearing was set for today, April 9, 2026, highlighting a brazen disregard for the judicial process.
Teenager Arrested in N20 Million Ransom Decoy Operation
In a separate incident, 18-year-old Israel Osanwuta was apprehended while attempting to take delivery of a N20 million ransom. The arrest followed a complaint from the Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) regarding threats to life and a demand for the hefty sum.
The Lagos State Police Command deployed a decoy operation to lure the suspect to a location to collect the money. Unaware of the trap, Osanwuta arrived and was nabbed by operatives. Recovered exhibits from this operation include one HP laptop and one flash drive.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted involvement in a previous attempted burglary at a commercial bank, underscoring a pattern of serious criminal behavior.
Car Theft Syndicate Busted and Other Arrests Made
On the same day, police operatives arrested five suspected members of a car theft syndicate known for stealing vehicles and dismantling them for resale. Recovered exhibits from this bust include one Toyota Sienna and one Toyota Camry, with efforts ongoing to recover more stolen vehicles and apprehend additional syndicate members.
In another case, 36-year-old Adeniyi Mumuni was arrested in connection with a suspected armed robbery. The suspect voluntarily confessed to the alleged crimes, leading detectives to conduct follow-up operations that resulted in the arrest of four more individuals on April 1, 2026.
Recovered exhibits from this operation include a local pistol and one live cartridge. The suspects confessed to robbing victims in the Ikotun and Egbeda areas of Lagos, further illustrating the widespread nature of criminal activities in the state.
Police Commissioner Issues Stern Warning
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support the police with credible and timely information. "The command will not tolerate any form of criminality. Those involved in unlawful activities are advised to desist or face the full weight of the law," he stated emphatically.
These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Police Command to combat crime and ensure public safety, even as suspects continue to engage in illegal activities despite pending court cases.
