The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Chibuzor Mogbo, while his alleged accomplice, Jessica Anyincha, remains at large, in connection with the theft of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at N1,028,825,520. The arrest followed a complaint filed by MEA Energy regarding conspiracy and stealing.
Police operatives launched a discreet investigation aided by technical support and intelligence gathering. After 12 days of intensive probe and follow-up operations, the 38-year-old suspect was captured in Delta State, where he had fled. Mogbo reportedly confessed to the crime and led officers to recover cash and properties worth over N300,000 linked to the alleged criminal act. Efforts are ongoing to arrest Anyincha, who is still at large.
Staged Kidnap Plot Uncovered
The command also arrested Adamu Abdullahi for an alleged self-kidnapping scheme. On May 19, 2026, Abubakar reported his brother, Adamu Abdullahi, a scrap iron dealer, missing. A video later surfaced showing the purported victim being beaten with planks and threatened with death unless a ransom of N1.5 million was paid by his employer.
Upon careful analysis, detectives noted inconsistencies, as there were no visible signs of physical assault after the alleged victim returned home. Under interrogation, Abdullahi confessed that the kidnapping was staged in collaboration with Adelowo Olalekan Akorede, 39-year-old Yusuf Lukman, and another accomplice at large. The suspects intended to fraudulently obtain money from the victim's employer, Lawal Abubakar, who regularly entrusted him with funds for scrap iron business transactions. Abdullahi also admitted to diverting N490,000 previously entrusted for business purposes. The amount was recovered, and the workshop used for recording the fake kidnapping video was visited during the investigation.
Recovery of Stolen Vehicle
On May 25, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., police responded to a distress call from Odunsi Street, Bariga, Lagos, reporting two suspicious men attempting to remove a Toyota Sienna vehicle. Officers arrested Achepa Solomon and Ihezie Francis, a mechanic from Oworonshoki. Further investigation led to the recovery of a Honda i-VTEC saloon car with registration number ABC 775 LD from the suspects. They are in custody, and cases will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, urged the public to support the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and effective law enforcement. All suspects will face court proceedings once investigations are complete.
