Lagos Task Force Unveils New Anti-Crime Patrol Unit to Enhance Public Safety

The Lagos State Task Force has officially launched a dedicated anti-crime patrol unit aimed at tackling criminal activities and environmental violations across the state. This strategic initiative comes in response to a recent directive from the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, which banned the agency from enforcing traffic violations, shifting its focus towards more proactive security measures.

Proactive Security Measures and Operational Mandate

The newly established unit is designed to operate round-the-clock, with a primary goal of proactively detecting, deterring, and neutralizing criminal threats before they escalate into serious public safety issues. Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, emphasized the necessity of this unit in eliminating criminal elements that pose significant risks to both residents and visitors within Lagos.

According to Akerele, the anti-crime patrol unit will function as a standby and rapid response team, mandated to arrest and ensure the prosecution of offenders involved in a wide range of illegal activities. These include:

In a firm statement, he declared, "We will spare no effort to eliminate criminal activities in the state this year. We will compel criminals to desist from their acts or relocate from Lagos." This underscores the agency's determination to create a safer environment through rigorous law enforcement.

The Lagos State Task Force has affirmed its dedication to safeguarding lives and property, calling on residents to actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies. The agency urges the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security and environmental operations, highlighting the importance of community involvement in maintaining public order.

This launch marks a significant step in the state's efforts to enhance security measures, aligning with broader initiatives to combat crime and ensure a peaceful living environment for all Lagosians.
