An attempted burglary at the home of Spanish teenage sensation Lamine Yamal was thwarted just hours after he helped Spain secure a spot in the FIFA World Cup final. The 19-year-old played the entire match as Spain defeated France 2-0 in their semi-final clash in Dallas on Tuesday.
Burglary Attempt Details
Catalan news outlet La Vanguardia reported that early on Wednesday morning, two masked individuals attempted to enter Yamal's property. The suspects were spotted perched on a wall of the residence by private security guards, who challenged them. The individuals fled immediately, and the guards notified local police.
A spokesperson for the Catalan regional police confirmed the incident to AFP, stating: "There was an attempted burglary at a home in Esplugues de Llobregat," a municipality on the outskirts of Barcelona.
Property's Notable History
The newspaper noted that Yamal's house is well-known because it previously belonged to Barcelona football legend Gerard Piqué and his former partner, Colombian music star Shakira, during their time together in the Catalan capital.
Timing of the Incident
The attempted break-in occurred early Wednesday morning, shortly after Spain completed their 2-0 victory over France in Texas to qualify for the World Cup final. During the match, Yamal won a first-half penalty that Mikel Oyarzabal converted to open the scoring. He also had a goal disallowed in the second half for offside.
