Arraignment at Ikeja Magistrates' Court
A 23-year-old man, Olasunkanmi Shorunke, was arraigned on Wednesday at an Ikeja Magistrates' Court in Lagos for allegedly threatening to post a nude video of his former girlfriend. The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, faces charges of unlawful recording of intimate content and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
Prosecution's Allegations
Prosecution Counsel SP Josephine Ikhayere informed the court that the offense occurred in December 2025 at No. 8 Rev. Kwakpovwe Street, Agboyi Estate, Alapere, Lagos. According to the prosecution, Shorunke secretly recorded a nude video of his ex-girlfriend, Faith Braimoh, 26, during a video call and later threatened to post it on social media.
Legal Basis and Charges
The charges contravene Section 259(b) and Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Section 259(b) addresses the unlawful recording of intimate images, while Section 168(d) covers conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Bail and Adjournment
Magistrate Lateef A. Owolabi admitted Shorunke to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case has been adjourned until September 15 for hearing. The defendant remains in custody pending satisfaction of bail conditions.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about digital privacy and the misuse of intimate content. Authorities continue to enforce laws protecting individuals from such threats, which have become more prevalent with the rise of social media and video call platforms.
