A 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, has been arrested for allegedly murdering and secretly burying his 23-year-old girlfriend in Anambra State, located in Nigeria's South-east region. The Anambra State police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, a superintendent of police, disclosed this in a statement released on Monday.
According to Mr Ikenga, the suspect was taken into custody following credible information provided by concerned members of the public. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where detectives have commenced detailed inquiries to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure the suspect faces prosecution.
Police Commend Residents
Mr Ikenga praised residents of Anambra State for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of information, which continues to aid the police and other security agencies in exposing criminal activities and tracking down offenders. The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, reassured the public that the police remain committed to protecting lives and property, enforcing the law, and ensuring that perpetrators of crimes are prosecuted. He urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through emergency lines or at the nearest police facility.
