The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a middle-aged man, Samuel Akoade, in connection with the alleged machete killing of his mother, Olufunke Akoade, in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area, on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Incident Details and Police Response
The command's spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest to journalists, stating that the suspect is now in police custody. According to Jimoh, Akoade allegedly attacked his mother with a machete, inflicting deep injuries that led to her death.
Jimoh detailed the sequence of events: “The incident occurred on Sunday, 16th August 2026, when the command received a report that the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood at her residence. Preliminary information revealed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.”
Investigation and Arrest
Following the report, police operatives from Ore Division mobilized to the scene, secured the area, and commenced a preliminary investigation. A machete suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered, and the scene was photographed and documented.
The suspected assailant, initially identified only as Samuel, had fled before police arrival. However, through sustained efforts, operatives tracked down and arrested Samuel Akoade, who is now in custody.
Case Transferred for Further Investigation
Jimoh confirmed that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary, and the suspect remains in police custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation.
