Edo Man Arrested for Alleged Rape of 13-Year-Old Stepdaughter and Friend

The Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) has apprehended a 41-year-old man, Michael Ogungbemi, for allegedly raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter and her friend, both Junior Secondary School students. This disturbing incident took place in the Ogbegun community, located within the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

Details of the Alleged Assaults

Reports indicate that the suspect repeatedly sexually assaulted his stepdaughter while her mother was at work. To facilitate these acts, he would often send her younger siblings on errands, creating opportunities for the abuse. Furthermore, it is alleged that Ogungbemi encouraged his stepdaughter to bring her friend, also a JSS I student, to their home, where he defiled her after multiple attempts.

The suspect reportedly threatened both victims with death if they disclosed the abuse to anyone, instilling fear and silence. The situation came to light when the JSS I student suddenly felt ill at school. Her female teacher, noticing her condition, quickly informed her parents, who rushed her to the hospital for treatment.

Discovery and Arrest

Upon examination by a doctor, it was discovered that the minor had contracted an infection. After much pressure, she disclosed that the suspect had been having sexual intercourse with her and his stepdaughter. The parents immediately contacted the Edo State Security Corps, leading to the prompt arrest of Ogungbemi.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, blaming his actions on the devil. The Corps Deputy Commander, Richard Balogun, confirmed the incident, stating that the arrest followed a tip-off. Ogungbemi has been handed over to the police for prosecution, as authorities work to ensure justice for the victims.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about child safety and sexual abuse in communities, underscoring the need for vigilance and swift action by security agencies and the public to protect vulnerable minors.
