A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 89-year-old woman in South Africa. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Nyavani village, outside Malamulele in Limpopo.
Details of the Incident
According to police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba, the suspect entered the victim’s room while she was asleep. He allegedly attacked her after she told him she had no money. The suspect reportedly fell asleep after the incident, which allowed the victim to call for help.
Arrest and Aftermath
The suspect was later arrested and is currently under police guard in hospital after being assaulted by community members. Provincial Commissioner Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest but warned against mob justice.
Legal Proceedings
The suspect is expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court soon. Police have urged the public to allow the legal process to take its course and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
