Police in Niger State Apprehend Suspect for Attempted Assault on Young Girls

The Niger State Police Command has taken into custody a 40-year-old man, Jafar Mohammed, also known as Danlami, for an attempted sexual assault on three girls aged between 6 and 7 years old. This incident occurred in the Kontagora Local Government Area of the state, highlighting ongoing concerns about child safety in the region.

Details of the Disturbing Incident

According to a statement released on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the arrest was made on February 11, 2026, at approximately 10:00 AM. The suspect allegedly lured the young victims to an uncompleted building located in the Dadin-Kowa area of Kontagora under the false pretense of offering them candy.

Investigation findings revealed that during the attempted assault, one of the girls managed to raise an alarm, which quickly attracted the attention of nearby neighbors. Their prompt intervention led to the immediate arrest of Jafar Mohammed at the scene. The suspect was subsequently handed over to police operatives from the Kontagora Area Command and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for a more thorough and comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Separate Arrest for Motorcycle Theft in Suleja

In an unrelated development, the Niger State Police also reported the arrest of a 27-year-old laundry man, Faisal Ibrahim, in connection with the theft of a motorcycle in Suleja. The incident was reported on February 2, 2026, around 6:45 PM, from the Kwamba area of Suleja.

Police accounts indicate that on February 1, 2026, at about 8:00 PM, the victim had securely locked his Bajaj motorcycle in his room after finishing work for the day and left briefly to obtain some food. Upon returning, he discovered that the motorcycle had been stolen by an unknown individual. He promptly reported the theft to the Maje Division of the police.

Following the report, Faisal Ibrahim, who works as a laundry man in the vicinity, was arrested based on strong suspicion linked to the crime. During interrogation, he confessed to the theft and guided detectives to the location where he had hidden the motorcycle within the Kwamba area. After the investigation was completed, the suspect was charged to court for prosecution, as per standard legal procedures.

These arrests underscore the Niger State Police Command's ongoing efforts to address criminal activities across the state, from serious offenses like attempted assaults on minors to property crimes such as theft.
