Tragic Suicide in Ilorin

A 31-year-old man identified as Abdullateef has tragically ended his life by jumping into a domestic well in Ilorin, Kwara State. The incident occurred during the early hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025, while most residents were still asleep in their homes.

Repeated Suicide Attempts

According to the Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the young man had made previous attempts to jump into the same well but was unsuccessful. Findings revealed that Abdullateef had been expressing intentions of taking his own life since the previous day, making repeated attempts that went largely unnoticed until the final, fatal incident.

The Fire Service received a distress call at exactly 04:33 hours on Sunday morning, prompting immediate deployment of a rescue team to Bolarinwa Compound in the Centre Igboro Area of Ilorin. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the grim reality of the situation.

Firefighters conducted what was described as a professional recovery operation, retrieving Abdullateef's lifeless body from the well. The body was subsequently handed over to the head of the family, Alhaji Bolarinwa, for burial arrangements according to Islamic rites.

The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed profound sadness over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Bolarinwa family. He emphasized the importance of community vigilance in preventing such tragedies.
