Man kills childhood friend at housewarming party in Edo

A festive gathering in Edo State turned into a scene of tragedy when a man was allegedly killed by his childhood friend during a housewarming party. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Oben Community.

Details of the Fatal Attack

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 43-year-old Amadin Williams in connection with the murder of his lifelong friend, Eghosa Osas, who was also 43 years old. The attack occurred at a housewarming celebration in Oben Community.

According to the police, the victim, Eghosa Osas, had recently returned to Nigeria from abroad with his family to celebrate the Christmas holiday. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the victim's elder brother reported the horrific incident to the authorities.

Police Account and Ongoing Investigation

Police spokesperson Ikoedem provided chilling details of the event. She stated that Eghosa Osas was attacked when he went to relieve himself. The suspect, Amadin Williams, allegedly used a machete to inflict a fatal cut on Osas's neck, which led to his death.

"The report of the murder of Eghosa is true, and the suspect, Amadin Williams, believed to be his childhood friend, is in custody. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court as soon as the investigation is concluded," Ikoedem said. The motive for the brutal attack remains unclear and is a key part of the police inquiry.

A Pattern of Violent Crimes

This heartbreaking event follows other recent incidents of violence among acquaintances in Nigeria. In a separate case, the Delta State Police Command arrested a 47-year-old man named Ezekiel for allegedly killing his first cousin over a dispute involving a ₦1,000 burial refund in the Ughelli South area.

Furthermore, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command earlier arrested 23-year-old Iliayasu Mohammed in February 2025 for the alleged murder of his close friend, Safillahi Muhammad. Investigations revealed Mohammed was an ex-convict linked to a criminal syndicate.

The Edo State killing underscores ongoing concerns about violent crimes and serves as a grim reminder of how personal disputes can escalate into fatal confrontations, even among those who have shared a long history.
