A young man has been accused of fatally stabbing his childhood friend in Minna, Niger State, following a dispute that erupted over sachet water used for Islamic ablution.

A Fatal Dispute Over Water

The tragic event took place on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2025, precisely during the Maghrib prayer time. The location was the Dutsen Kura Hausa area on Yoruba Street in Minna.

Eyewitnesses report that the violence stemmed from a seemingly minor argument. The disagreement was about sachet water, commonly called 'pure water,' intended for wudu (ablution) before prayers. This petty quarrel rapidly escalated into a physical and violent confrontation between the two friends.

Victim Succumbs to Injuries

During the altercation, the suspect, identified only as Abdulazeez, allegedly used a knife to attack Abubakar Sadiq. Sadiq sustained severe stab wounds from the assault.

Despite efforts to save him, the injuries proved fatal. Abubakar Sadiq was confirmed dead at the scene, turning a petty argument into a heartbreaking loss of life.

Community Tension and Call for Justice

In the immediate aftermath, both the suspect, Abdulazeez, and the victim's body were moved to the local vigilante office for preliminary handling. This action, however, did little to calm the rising anger in the community.

The news of the killing sparked significant unrest. Angry youths gathered in the area, expressing their fury and demanding instant justice for the senseless killing.
