A former U.S. Army soldier has been convicted of first-degree murder in Hawaii for the brutal stabbing deaths of his girlfriend and their 6-month-old son. The case, which shocked even veteran police officers, involved a chilling scene where the perpetrator wrote 'I'm sorry' on the walls in the victims' blood.
Details of the Crime
Kendall Rashad Ramsey, 28, was found guilty in July 2026 for the August 2020 killings inside a second-floor studio apartment in Honolulu. According to prosecutors, Ramsey stabbed his girlfriend, 23-year-old [Name], 38 times and his infant son 17 times. After the attack, he fled the scene and was involved in a car crash, which his defense claimed was a suicide attempt.
When Ramsey was taken to the hospital, he reportedly told medical staff that he had been drinking, became angry, and blacked out. He claimed that when he regained consciousness, he found his girlfriend and son dead.
Prosecutor's Testimony
Deputy Prosecutor Scott Bell described the horrifying discovery during the trial. "Even with years of experience of police work under their belts, the responding officers were unprepared for the horror that awaited them in that second-floor studio," Bell said. "One officer smelled it before he saw it. Blood had splattered the walls, soaked the sofa and caked the carpet."
Officers found the infant "on his back near the trash can, arms to the side," with his body "smeared in dried blood." The mother lay nearby, "her eyes were wide open, their vacant stare skyward, her thick hair in a pool of blood that had congealed around her head," Bell continued.
Blood Messages and Defense
On the walls, multiple messages were written in blood, including "I'm sorry. I st@bbed her. She choked me." The defense argued that Ramsey's mental health issues stemmed from "childhood abuse, abandonment, trauma, shame," and other stressors in his life.
Despite these arguments, the jury convicted Ramsey of first-degree murder. He remains in custody at the Oahu Community Correctional Center without bail and is scheduled for sentencing on November 18, 2026.
