Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta has expelled 365 Higher National Diploma students after an investigation uncovered that they used fake National Diploma results and forged transcripts to secure admission. The institution conducted a comprehensive verification exercise that revealed irregularities in documents submitted during the admission and registration processes.
Verification Exercise Exposes Fraud
According to a statement from the polytechnic's Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, the action was taken to protect the integrity of the admission process and maintain academic standards. The verification exercise targeted credentials submitted by students, leading to the discovery of widespread forgery.
Schools Most Affected
The School of Communication and Information Technology had the highest number of expulsions, with 156 students affected. The School of Business and Management Studies followed with 117 students, while the School of Science and Technology accounted for 54 cases. The School of Engineering had 36 students expelled, and the School of Environmental Studies recorded two cases.
Rector Warns Prospective Applicants
Rector Dr. Koye Jolaoso cautioned admission seekers against using forged documents, stating that the polytechnic remains committed to zero tolerance for academic fraud. He emphasized that safeguarding academic integrity is central to the institution's reputation and public confidence in its qualifications.
Policy Against Academic Misconduct
The polytechnic reiterated its policy against examination malpractice, document forgery, and other forms of academic misconduct. The expulsion underscores the institution's dedication to sanitizing the academic system and reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy.
