Tragic Drowning in Kano as Youths Flee Suspected Phone Snatchers
A community in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State has been plunged into mourning following the tragic deaths of two young men. The victims, identified as Sadiq Isyaku and Auwal Isyaku, both aged 18, drowned after falling into an open water body while attempting to escape from suspected phone snatchers.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred last Friday, March 6, at Ring Road in Kano. According to preliminary reports, the two youths were being pursued by individuals suspected of phone snatching. In their desperate bid to flee, they accidentally fell into a pond, leading to their untimely demise.
The Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the sad event in a statement. He revealed that the agency received an emergency call from one Muhd Abba, who reported the incident to their control room.
Rescue Efforts and Outcome
Upon receiving the distress call, a rescue team from the service headquarters was immediately mobilized to the scene. Upon arrival, the team discovered that the two 18-year-olds had fallen into the open water. They were rescued unconscious but were later confirmed dead.
Abdullahi added that the bodies of the victims were handed over to their father, Ibrahim Shehu, of Unguwa Uku Quarters. The spokesperson emphasized that the preliminary information indicates the incident happened as the youths tried to save themselves from the suspected phone snatchers.
