Lisa Mutambo, a 25-year-old Zambian model and hotel ambassador, died in the early hours of 20 August 2026 after collapsing at her Kalundu residence following a night out with friends. The Zambia Police Service confirmed the sudden death and has launched an investigation, with a postmortem examination expected to determine the definitive cause.
Police Confirm Sudden Death Report
According to a statement from the Zambia Police Service, officers at Chelstone Police Station received a report of a sudden death on Thursday, 20 August 2026, at approximately 9:30 am. Police deputy spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha revealed that Mutambo is believed to have died between 3:30 am and 4:30 am at Victoria Hospital.
Kaitisha detailed that Mutambo spent the evening of 19 August with two female companions at a hotel where she worked as a brand ambassador. The group left the venue around 10:30 pm and moved on to another drinking spot in Lusaka.
Sequence of Events Leading to Death
Her boyfriend arrived between 2:30 am and 3:00 am and collected the three women. He first dropped the two friends off in the Minestone/Casanova area before taking Mutambo to her residence in the Kalundu neighbourhood.
Shortly after arriving home, she began vomiting and lost consciousness. Her boyfriend reached out to a friend, and together they rushed her to Victoria Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police noted that no physical injuries were visible on Mutambo's body. The statement came in direct response to claims circulating on social media alleging that she had been beaten to death by her boyfriend. Investigators processed both the primary and secondary scenes, and her body was initially held at FSG Mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
