Mother Charged for Allegedly Shooting 1-Year-Old to 'Send to God'

A 28-year-old Louisiana woman is now in custody, facing a severe criminal charge after a tragic incident that claimed the life of her infant child. Kristin Bass has been charged with first-degree murder following the fatal shooting of her one-year-old daughter, Acelynn Moss.

Details of the Tragic Shooting

According to authorities from the Sulphur Police Department, the event unfolded on the evening of Thursday, January 1, 2026. Officers rushed to a residence on Quelqueshue Street in Sulphur after receiving a report of a shooting at approximately 8:21 p.m. local time.

Upon arrival, they discovered a devastating scene: a young child had been shot and killed inside the home. The victim was identified as one-year-old Acelynn Moss.

Father's Harrowing Account of the Incident

The child's father, Bradley Moss, provided a chilling account of what he witnessed. He told Fox 8 that he heard a loud boom on the evening of the incident. Rushing into the room, he found his daughter Acelynn shot and Bass allegedly holding a firearm.

Moss stated that the couple's other child, a two-year-old girl, was also in the room and crying for help. He recounted that Bass told him she had shot Acelynn because she wanted to "send her to God." Disturbingly, Moss claimed Bass implied she was also planning to shoot their second child.

"I almost lost two babies," Moss told the news outlet. "I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God. [My older daughter] said, 'Help me, Daddy.' And Kristin said, 'I just sent our baby to God.'" He added that Bass then said, "Now I gotta get her," referring to their older daughter.

Social Media Posts and Legal Consequences

A review of Bass's Facebook activity revealed a post from December 17, 2025, just two weeks before the shooting. In the post, she wrote extensively about her religious beliefs, expressing feelings of having lived in opposition to her faith.

She asked for prayers, writing: "Pray for me. Pray for the people who have seen my imperfect practices. Pray for my forgiveness and pray for their clarity. Power in the name of Jesus Christ."

Following her arrest, Kristin Bass is being held on a substantial bond set at $10 million. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to fully understand the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking event.
