Mother, Pastor Arrested for Teen's Death in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a mother and a local pastor following the death of a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly beaten to death over allegations of theft. The deceased, identified as Nancy Peter, died after being assaulted in the Eastern Boki area of the state.

Incident Details

According to Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the fatal incident began when accusations of theft were leveled against the teenager. The victim's mother, 43-year-old Agnes Peter, allegedly beat the girl at home. The mother then took the teenager to Pastor Samson Roman Dago, 43, at a local church.

ASP Eitokpah stated that the victim lost consciousness while being flogged with a cane by the pastor. She was immediately rushed to a healthcare facility in Wula, where medical doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.

Police Investigation

The police command confirmed that a full-scale investigation has been launched into the incident. Authorities also addressed rumors circulating on social media regarding the nature of the crime. The police officially debunked viral claims suggesting the teenager was sexually assaulted. Preliminary medical examinations yielded no evidence to support allegations of sexual violence.

Suspects in Custody

Both Mrs. Peter and Pastor Dago remain in police custody and are undergoing interrogation as the investigation continues. The police have assured the public that justice will be served in this tragic case.
