Murder Suspect Confesses to Revenge Killings in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the alleged murder of two individuals in Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area. A suspect in custody has reportedly confessed to carrying out the killings.

Suspect's Confession

In an update issued on Friday, the Command disclosed that the prime suspect, identified as Akaninyine Eretus, 40, is assisting investigators following his arrest. According to the police, Eretus allegedly admitted during interrogation to killing two men identified only as Okokon and Okon on May 24 and May 25, 2026, respectively. The suspect reportedly told investigators that one of the victims was attacked and killed while asleep, while the second was allegedly hacked to death with a machete.

Motive for the Crimes

Police said the suspect claimed his actions were motivated by a desire to avenge the deaths of his parents and two elder brothers, who he alleged were killed during a communal crisis that occurred in the area about 29 years ago. The Command, however, cautioned that the statements made by the suspect remain allegations that are subject to thorough investigation and verification.
