Navy arrests car-snatching syndicate member in Abuja

Operatives of the Naval Base Abuja have apprehended a suspected key member of a notorious vehicle-snatching syndicate that has been terrorising the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The suspect, Habeeb Ajadi, a 39-year-old Physics graduate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, was intercepted at Jere while travelling to Kaduna.

Suspect posed as prison officer

According to authorities, Ajadi allegedly posed as an Inspector of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), using service number 63639 as a cover to carry out his criminal activities. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing over 50 vehicles from various locations across the FCT and identified two accomplices based in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Stolen vehicles sold cheaply

Ajadi disclosed that the stolen vehicles were sold for between ₦1 million and ₦1.2 million each, far below their market value. The syndicate’s operations have caused significant concern among residents of the FCT, with many falling victim to the car-snatching scheme.
