The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, has successfully uncovered and dismantled a significant illicit drugs warehouse located in the Igbanke community within Orhionmwon Local Council of the state. This operation marks a critical victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and substance abuse in the region.
Massive Seizure and Arrest Details
In a statement released to journalists, the State Commander of Narcotics, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed the arrest of a 37-year-old suspect identified as Roland Owie. During the operation, authorities confiscated a massive consignment of Cannabis sativa, totaling 1,378 kilograms. The seizure included 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis, highlighting the scale of the illicit operation.
Dr. Ofoyeju emphasized that this bust was executed based on credible intelligence, underscoring the agency's unwavering commitment to drug supply suppression. He noted that the operation represents a significant dent in the distribution network of harmful substances, cutting off drug supply from reaching streets, schools, and communities.
Strategic Importance of the Operation
The commander elaborated on the strategic importance of this seizure, stating, "This successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression. The seizure of 1,378 kilogrammes of cannabis in one single operation unequivocally represents a significant dent in the distribution network of these harmful substances."
He further explained that intercepting such a large quantity is crucial as it helps save countless young people from the devastating scourge of addiction. By disrupting the criminal economy and weakening trafficking syndicates, the NDLEA aims to make society safer through these efforts.
NDLEA's Commitment to Drug War
Dr. Ofoyeju reiterated that drug supply suppression remains a cornerstone of the NDLEA's strategy. While the agency continues its demand reduction efforts through advocacy and rehabilitation, cutting off the source is paramount. He added, "Every kilogramme seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates, and makes our society safer."
He also issued a stern warning to drug barons, asserting that Edo State is not a haven for illicit activities. "This arrest and seizure sends a clear message to all drug barons that Edo State is not a haven for illicit activities. We have zero tolerance, and our intelligence and operational capabilities are robust," he stated.
This operation highlights the NDLEA's proactive measures in combating drug-related crimes and its dedication to protecting communities from the harmful effects of illicit substances.
