The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a warning to the public regarding the existence of fraudulent online recruitment portals targeting examination supervisors. In a statement released by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Azeez Sani, the council clarified that these fake portals are requesting applicants to provide their academic credentials and make payments, which is contrary to NECO's official procedures.
No Payment Required for Supervisor Applications
Mr. Sani emphasized that NECO does not demand any payment from teachers who wish to apply for supervisory roles in the upcoming 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal. He urged all interested candidates to disregard any portal that asks for money, as the application process is entirely free of charge.
Transition to Electronic Recruitment
In line with the recommendations of the Ministerial Committee on the Improvement of Quality of Examination in Nigeria, NECO has moved from the traditional analogue method of recruiting supervisors and assistant supervisors to a fully electronic system. This change aims to enhance the examination supervision mechanism and ensure a more transparent and efficient process.
The statement further specified that qualified pensionable teachers on Grade Level 12 and above, who are at least 30 years old and interested in serving as supervisors for the 2026 SSCE Internal, should apply exclusively through the official NECO website. The council stressed that the recruitment process is fully automated and does not involve any third-party intermediaries.
Benefits of the New System
The automated system is designed to prevent fraud in the recruitment process, curb examination malpractice, and promote fairness and credibility. By eliminating manual procedures, NECO aims to ensure that only qualified candidates are selected based on merit.
Recruitment of 22,000 Supervisors
NECO also disclosed that it plans to recruit no fewer than 22,000 supervisors to facilitate the smooth conduct of the 2026 SSCE Internal, which is scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026. This large-scale recruitment underscores the council's commitment to maintaining high standards in examination administration.
