Police Operation Leads to Arrest of Trafficking Ring
The Upper East Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian women—Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy—for trafficking young girls to Ghana and forcing them into prostitution at Gbane, a suburb in the Talensi district. The arrests followed a tip-off and subsequent investigation that uncovered a network exploiting vulnerable girls from Nigeria.
According to a police statement released on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, preliminary investigations revealed that Peace Agbede approached one victim in Nigeria, promising to help her join the Ghanaian movie industry because of her beauty. The victim, who was reluctant at first, eventually agreed and traveled with Agbede to Ghana. Upon arrival, Agbede failed to fulfill her promise and instead took the victim to a mining site at Gbane-Tongo, where she was coerced into prostitution.
Victim Forced to Pay Daily Quota
The victim was made to pay Four Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 400.00) per day to Agbede. The victim later became pregnant and gave birth on June 26, 2026. Following the birth, Agbede and her accomplice, Favour Sunday Udo, visited the victim and attempted to convince her to sell the baby for Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 20,000.00) to an interested party who was ready to pay that amount for the child.
Search Reveals 265 Unused Condoms and Records
A search conducted in Agbede's room led to the recovery of 265 unused condoms and six sales recording books bearing the names Esther, Mary, Bright, and Silver. The police also rescued four female victims aged between 18 and 20 years. The suspects are currently in police custody and will be brought before a court soon.
