Nigeria's Rising Phone Repair Costs Spur Device Protection Launch

Cube Cover, a Tasala insurance broker company, has partnered with Slot Systems Limited to introduce Super Fix, a device protection service designed to help Nigerians manage the growing expense of repairing damaged phones, particularly cracked screens. The product was unveiled at a launch event where executives highlighted that increasing reliance on mobile devices and the rising cost of replacement parts have driven the need for affordable protection plans.

Partnership Aims to Reduce Financial Burden

Chief Executive Officer of Slot, Nnamdi Ezeigbo, stated that the collaboration aims to enhance customer experience by alleviating the financial strain of phone repairs. “We’ve observed how much people spend to replace screens, and the price of screens is steadily climbing,” he remarked. He noted that screen replacement costs now often account for 20 to 30 percent of a device's total value. Slot sought a partner capable of delivering reliable and affordable protection, aligning with its focus on value, trust, and after-sales support.

Affordable Insurance Plans

The partnership extends device support beyond the point of purchase by integrating insurance with Slot's repair and retail network. Customers can insure devices starting from N5,000 annually for coverage up to N50,000, while higher-tier plans offer coverage up to N300,000, depending on the device type and screen repair cost.

Chief Executive Officer of CubeCover, Deji Macaulay, explained that the service addresses the financial and operational challenges users face when devices are damaged. Smartphones are now central to daily life in Nigeria, used for communication, banking, transportation, business, and social interaction. Prolonged repair delays or costly maintenance can significantly disrupt activities. “If your phone is damaged and it takes too long to fix due to cost or lack of repair options, you suffer considerable impact,” he said.

Service Features and Claim Process

Macaulay noted that a waiting period will apply before customers can make claims, a standard industry practice to protect service integrity. Super Fix covers screen and water damage but excludes theft. The service simplifies claims processing to build customer confidence. Claims can be approved within seconds, and customers receive updates throughout the repair process, from submission to collection. “The claim experience is an opportunity to build trust,” Macaulay said. “From the moment your claim is submitted, it can be approved automatically within 10 seconds.”

The service is accessible through Slot's retail and repair outlets nationwide, allowing customers to process repairs at existing locations. Super Fix is also powered by the Cube Cover mobile app, offering a fully digital experience with features like digital onboarding, policy management, a repair shop locator, and a smart pre-approval section for quick repair approvals before visiting a center.

Chief Operating Officer of CubeCover, Alfred Egbai, emphasized the simplicity of the process: customers can initiate repairs via the platform or at Slot outlets by providing their registered phone numbers for verification. “All you need to do is present the device and give your phone number. Nothing complex,” he said.
