NNPC Warns Public About Fake Recruitment Scams
NNPC Warns Public About Fake Recruitment Scams

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding fraudulent recruitment schemes that falsely claim to offer employment within the organization. In a statement released on Saturday, the state-owned oil company emphasized that it is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise.

No Active Recruitment Campaign

NNPC Ltd explicitly stated that it has not advertised any job openings. The company urged job seekers to disregard any advertisements, messages, or websites that promise employment opportunities in exchange for money. “The general public is hereby informed that NNPC Limited is not currently advertising any recruitment opportunities,” the statement read. “Whenever recruitment is conducted, it will be announced on our official website and verified social media handles.”

Rise in Online Scams

The warning comes amid a surge in online scams targeting unemployed Nigerians who are seeking opportunities in the country’s oil and gas sector. Fraudsters typically use fake websites, social media accounts, and messaging platforms to solicit payments for non-existent jobs. According to NNPC, these scammers often demand fees for application processing, interview scheduling, or training programs.

Official Channels for Verification

NNPC advised the public to verify all recruitment information exclusively through its official communication channels. The company cautioned applicants never to pay any fees for employment processing, interviews, or training. It reiterated that legitimate recruitment processes are free of charge and conducted transparently.

Previous Recruitment Exercise

The company last concluded a nationwide recruitment exercise in early 2025, which it described as transparent and merit-based. Since then, no new recruitment drives have been announced. Authorities have repeatedly warned that employment scams remain one of the most common forms of cyber fraud in Nigeria, with criminals exploiting high youth unemployment rates to deceive job seekers.

Call for Vigilance

NNPC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious recruitment offers to relevant law enforcement agencies. The company stressed that it takes the issue of fraudulent schemes seriously and is working to protect the public from such scams.
