The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has intensified its crackdown on vandals destroying armoured cables in the Amuwo-Odofin community of Lagos State. The suspects were reportedly caught in the act after residents raised an alarm, alerting operatives of the Lagos State Command.
Community Collaboration Leads to Arrest
Confirming the development in a statement on Thursday, the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, Oluwaseun Abolurin, stated that the breakthrough in the fight against vandalism of telecommunications cables in the Amuwo-Odofin area was achieved through actionable intelligence provided by the community. He expressed gratitude to the residents for their collaboration and cooperation, particularly in intelligence and information sharing.
Abolurin noted that this successful operation resulted from robust community engagement programmes organised in the first and second quarters of 2026 with relevant stakeholders across the state. According to him, investigations into the matter are ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
Ongoing Efforts to Protect Infrastructure
The NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure, especially telecommunications assets, which are vital for the country's digital economy. The Commandant General, Associate Professor Ahmed Audi, has directed all state commands to intensify surveillance and collaboration with communities to curb vandalism. The Lagos Command's recent success underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in safeguarding infrastructure.
