NSCDC nabs 8 over Katsina outpost attack

The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the arrest of eight individuals linked to a violent attack on one of its outposts. The incident, which involved arson and vandalism, occurred in the state's metropolis.

Details of the Koraman Nayalli Attack

According to the command's Public Relations Officer, SC Buhari Hamisu, the attack took place on Sunday at the NSCDC outpost located in Koraman Nayalli, Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters. A large group of miscreants, protesting a recent raid that led to the death of a suspected drug peddler known as Uzairu or 'Dan'kuda', stormed the facility.

The assailants set the building ablaze, destroying three motorcycles and other vital properties belonging to the outpost. Armed with dangerous weapons, the mob also proceeded to threaten nearby outposts operated by the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police Force at Filin Kanada.

Swift Response and Investigation Launched

Hamisu confirmed that the situation was brought under control by the combined efforts of Special Response Squads from the NSCDC and the police. Normalcy has since been restored to the area.

In response to the attack, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Moriki, has ordered a comprehensive investigation. Commandant Moriki personally conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the damaged outpost and established a 7-man committee to oversee a proper probe into the circumstances. He issued a stern warning to criminals and economic saboteurs to desist or face the full consequences of the law.

Nationwide Yuletide Security Deployment

In a related development, the NSCDC has initiated a massive nationwide security operation for the Christmas and New Year period. The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the deployment of over 55,000 operatives across the country.

Prof. Audi emphasized that the deployment aims to protect critical national assets and ensure citizen safety. He noted that festive periods often see a spike in criminal activities. The strategy will involve both covert and overt operations.

In a statement delivered by the National Spokesman, Afolabi Babawale, Audi called for public cooperation. He urged citizens to provide credible and timely intelligence to help security agencies proactively address threats like banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Zonal and State Commandants have been directed to ensure effective coordination of the deployed personnel to maximize security coverage during the celebrations.
