NSCDC Apprehends Notorious Railway Vandals in Nasarawa State
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State has announced a significant breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on railway vandals and economic saboteurs, with the arrest of two suspects. This operation underscores the agency's intensified efforts to safeguard critical national infrastructure and combat criminal activities that threaten public safety and economic development.
Details of the Arrest and Suspects
State Commandant Brah Samson-Umoru revealed through the command's Public Relations Officer, SC Jerry Victor, during a press briefing in Lafia, that the suspects were apprehended at the crime scene based on credible intelligence. The individuals identified are Mohammed Sale, a 21-year-old male, and Mohammed Mailafiya, a 43-year-old male, both residents of Agyaragu Village in Lafia Local Government Area.
The swift response by NSCDC operatives prevented further damage to vital railway assets, highlighting the effectiveness of their surveillance and intelligence-driven strategies. Commandant Umoru emphasized that railway vandalism constitutes a severe economic crime with the potential to undermine national progress and endanger communities.
Recent Successes and Ongoing Operations
This latest arrest follows closely on the heels of another major operation just one week prior, where the command paraded five notorious railway vandals and recovered over thirty-three cut rails, along with other materials used in these illicit activities. Umoru attributed these successes to the command's relentless surveillance and operational diligence, which are yielding tangible results in curbing criminality.
He issued a stern warning to vandals and economic saboteurs, stating, "The Command under my leadership will not relent in its efforts at ridding Nasarawa State of crime and criminality. We are determined to make the state completely inhabitable for criminal elements. They have only one option — to turn a new leaf. If not, we will continue to hunt them down and bring them to justice."
Election Period Security Concerns
With electioneering campaigns approaching, Commandant Umoru expressed concerns that criminal elements might exploit this period to foment unrest and engage in unlawful activities within communities. He stressed that the NSCDC will not tolerate any actions that disrupt peace and security in the state.
"As we approach the electioneering period, we are aware that some individuals may want to use this opportunity to create unrest. The NSCDC in Nasarawa State will not tolerate such actions. We are fully prepared to deal decisively with anyone or group found wanting," he vowed, reinforcing the command's commitment to maintaining order.
Commitment to Public Safety and Cooperation
Umoru reassured law-abiding citizens of the Corps' unwavering dedication to protecting lives, property, and all critical national assets. He called on the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information, which is crucial for effective crime prevention and response.
The NSCDC's proactive measures in Nasarawa State reflect a broader national effort to secure infrastructure and ensure public safety, particularly as the country navigates upcoming electoral processes and economic challenges.
