Ogun Court Jails 14 Waste Offenders for 2 Weeks

The Ogun State Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has sentenced fourteen individuals to fourteen days imprisonment for waste-related offenses, with an option to pay a fine. The convicts were found guilty of dumping refuse on public roads, creating unsanitary conditions that could lead to disease outbreaks and flooding.

List of Convicted Offenders

The convicted waste offenders include Kareem Sherifat, Isiwat Ololade, Ojanuga Esther, Usman Babatunde, Blessing John, Falodun Bukola, Agunbiade Titilayo, Oritogun Samson, Obasa Idowu, Solomon Adelani, Lateef Saidat, Taiwo Abimbola, Adeniyi Olayinka, and Precious Adeyeri. They were arrested in the Tekobo and Idi-Aba areas of Abeokuta.

Details of the Offenses

Prosecuting the case, Sanitarian Abolaji Dasaolu stated that the offenders were caught at about eight o'clock in the morning dumping refuse on public roads. The waste emitted offensive odors and attracted flies, creating a breeding ground for cholera and other dangerous diseases. Additionally, the accumulation of refuse in drains risked blocking them, leading to flooding that could endanger lives and property. These actions violated the Public Health Law of Ogun State 2006 and Section 34(1) of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority Law 2020.
