Ogun Father Arrested for Alleged Incest and Procuring Five Illegal Abortions for Daughter
The Ogun State Police Command has made a shocking arrest, detaining a man identified as Oluwadamilare Ewedemi for allegedly sexually abusing his own daughter over a prolonged period and procuring multiple illegal abortions for her. This deeply disturbing case, which began in 2019 in Ijebu Ode, came to public attention after the 21-year-old survivor bravely reported the atrocities to the authorities.
Survivor's Harrowing Account of Abuse and Forced Terminations
According to police reports, the survivor detailed a horrific pattern of abuse at the hands of her father. She alleged that he repeatedly sexually assaulted her, resulting in five separate pregnancies. Tragically, each time she became pregnant, her father allegedly forced her to undergo an illegal abortion, procuring the procedures himself. The young woman explained that after losing her mother as an infant, she was placed in a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos. In 2019, her father took her to Ijebu Ode under the pretense of providing care, but instead subjected her to years of exploitation and violence.
Escape and Police Intervention Lead to Arrest
The survivor managed to escape from her father's residence on February 1, 2026, fleeing due to the persistent abuse. She sought refuge at a church in the Pakoto area, where she found temporary safety. The case was formally reported to the police on March 26 at the Ifo Division, prompting immediate and decisive action by law enforcement officers. Confirming the arrest, the command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the survivor's escape and subsequent report were critical in bringing the matter to light.
"During this period, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured abortion for each pregnancy," Babaseyi emphasized, highlighting the severity of the allegations. He added that the suspect, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, was apprehended following intensive intelligence gathering by officers under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kamorudeen. The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect is currently in custody, and the case has been transferred to the Gender Desk for a thorough and detailed investigation to ensure prosecution.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that they are treating this case with the utmost seriousness. The transfer to the Gender Desk signifies a focused approach to handle such sensitive matters involving gender-based violence. Authorities are committed to conducting a comprehensive investigation to gather all necessary evidence and witness testimonies. This step is crucial to building a strong case for prosecution in court, aiming to deliver justice for the survivor and hold the alleged perpetrator accountable for his actions.
