Ogun Police Arrest Four Suspects, Recover 17 Cartridges in Firearms Operations

The Ogun State Police Command has successfully apprehended four suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda, targeting alleged unlawful possession of firearms and the recovery of 17 live cartridges. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in Abeokuta on Sunday, these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and cultism in the state.

Details of the Arrests and Recoveries

In Mowe, operatives from the Mowe Division arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, on April 14, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m. The arrest followed a tip-off about a suspicious individual loitering around the Mowe bus stop. A search of the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag. During interrogation, Anuoluwapo admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity, a known cult group.

In a separate incident, the Quick Response Squad arrested 30-year-old Ashaye Ajibola during a stop-and-search operation along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road at Lafarge. A search revealed a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges. Ajibola failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the firearm, leading to his detention.
