First Operation: Theft Syndicate

On May 30, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, arrested Moruf Sodiq, also known as “Okiki,” who was allegedly part of a generator theft syndicate operating in Abeokuta and its surroundings. Sodiq led investigators to Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” identified as a receiver of stolen property. A search of Amodu’s premises yielded four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android phones suspected to be recently stolen.

Additionally, Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” a commercial motorcyclist, was arrested for allegedly providing logistical support to the syndicate by transporting suspects to target locations. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the network.

Second Operation: Illegal Firearms

On June 12, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit arrested Adeboye Ojesina, 58, for unlawful possession of firearms and using weapons to intimidate residents of Wasimi and neighboring communities. A search led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge.

Odutola stated that Ojesina initially denied ownership but later claimed he found the pistol and fired a test round. He also alleged that the pump-action rifle was given to him by an unidentified person, who is currently being tracked by security operatives. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

Third Operation: Theft at Construction Site

On June 13, operatives from the Ibafo Division responded to a theft complaint at a site in Igbeti Sote Village, Ibafo. They intercepted Afisu Awesu attempting to steal a forklift engine component with an accomplice who fled. Further investigations revealed that the suspects had previously stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu of Kara, Ibafo. Detectives arrested Aminu for receiving stolen property.

The police are making efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect and dismantle the entire criminal network. All suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
