Police in Ogun State Arrest Suspect for Attacking Okada Rider, Recover Gun and Motorcycle
Police in Ogun State have made a significant arrest following a violent incident in the Sabo area, where a suspected armed robber attacked a motorcyclist with a locally made pistol. The suspect, identified as Matthew Adebisi, was apprehended after a distress call from members of the public in the Sodeke area of Sabo.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrest
According to Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi, who confirmed the details to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital, the incident occurred on April 5, 2026, at approximately 2200 hours. The Command received a report that Matthew Adebisi had attacked an okada rider with a locally made gun, leaving the victim unconscious before fleeing with his motorcycle.
Upon receipt of the report, operatives were swiftly dispatched to the scene. The suspect was given a hot chase and subsequently apprehended. During the arrest, the locally made gun used in the attack and the stolen motorcycle were recovered from him. The victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, where he is currently responding to treatment.
Investigation and Commendation
Babaseyi stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation, ensuring that justice is served for the violent crime.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the swift response and professionalism of the operatives involved. Ojajuni reiterated the Command's commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring the safety of residents. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to help prevent such incidents in the future.
