Ogun Police Arrest Three Car Thieves, Recover Pistol

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of being armed robbers who specialize in targeting and stealing vehicles. A pistol used in their operations was also recovered.

Suspects and Arrest Details

The suspects have been identified as Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde, and Adedokun Adewusi. They were taken into custody by detectives from the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ogun State Police following a report of a vehicle theft.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who confirmed the development in a statement in Abeokuta, the arrests were made based on credible intelligence. The detectives conducted a discreet and intelligence-led investigation, which led to the capture of Hammed Olarewaju, who was found in possession of a suspicious vehicle plate number. Further inquiry subsequently led to the gang leader, Adedokun Ayinde.

Recovered Items

During the operation, a previously stolen Toyota Sienna was recovered, along with a fabricated pistol believed to have been used by the suspects in the commission of their crimes. In a related development, a Toyota Corolla that had been stolen earlier in Ilaro was recovered from one Arowolo Taoreed in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Operatives also arrested Adedokun Adewusi in connection with another armed robbery incident. The investigation led to the recovery of a stolen grey 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport vehicle, which was traced to Abuja. Additionally, a pistol recovered at Ajah, Lagos State, is linked to the same criminal network.

Criminal Network

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are part of a coordinated criminal network involved in vehicle theft and armed robbery activities across Ogun State and neighboring states. DSP Babaseyi added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen vehicles.
