Ogun State Fines 7 Companies for Illegal Waste Dumping
Ogun Sanctions 7 Firms for Illegal Refuse Dumping

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has taken decisive action against environmental violations by imposing sanctions on seven companies. The firms were found to have used unlicensed vendors to dump refuse at illegal sites across the state.

OGWAMA Intercepts Trucks at Notorious Site

Abayomi Hunye, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OGWAMA, revealed the development on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. He stated that the agency's officials acted on a tip-off and intercepted two trucks loaded with waste at Iyana Cele, an area known for illegal dumping activities.

Upon inspecting the waste materials, the officials discovered documents and labels linking the refuse to seven specific companies. This discovery provided concrete evidence needed to hold the companies accountable for their role in the illegal disposal.

Companies Face Prescribed Sanctions

Hunye explained that the sanctioned companies had engaged members of an association of waste management vendors and recyclers to carry out the illegal dumping. This practice violates the state's waste management regulations, which require proper disposal at authorized locations.

The OGWAMA boss emphasized that the authority will not condone any form of illegal waste disposal by unlicensed vendors. He confirmed that all seven companies have been made to pay the fines and penalties prescribed for such offences.

A Commitment to Enforcement and a Cleaner State

This incident underscores OGWAMA's ongoing commitment to enforcing environmental laws in Ogun State. Hunye stressed that the agency will continue its vigilance and enforcement drive to ensure compliance with waste management rules.

The action serves as a stern warning to other businesses and individuals who might consider improper waste disposal methods. OGWAMA aims to promote a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents by holding violators responsible.
