NUT Directs Teachers to Withdraw Services

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has directed teachers in public schools within Oriire Local Council to stay away from their schools indefinitely. This directive comes in response to the recent abduction of 39 students and seven teachers in the council area. The victims remain in captivity as of the time of this report.

In a statement signed by the NUT State Secretary, Salami Olukayode, the union described the abduction as unfortunate, leaving a deep scar on the teaching community. The national executives of the body instructed teachers to stay away from schools starting Tuesday, May 26, 2026, until further notice.

Olubadan Expresses Concern Over Rising Insecurity

Meanwhile, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has voiced alarm over the rising wave of kidnappings and violent crimes across the country. He called on governments and stakeholders to take urgent steps to address the menace.

The monarch made the appeal during the installation of Mogajis and Baales at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan. At the ceremony, no fewer than 14 Mogajis from different families and seven Baales from various villages in Ibadanland were installed. The event was attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council and other dignitaries.

Speaking on behalf of the Olubadan, the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, lamented the growing insecurity, particularly the increasing cases of kidnapping, killings, and violent attacks.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Solomon Ayoade, the monarch urged all levels of government, traditional rulers, and critical stakeholders to rise to the challenge of tackling insecurity before it spirals further out of control. He specifically appealed to the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde and local council chairmen to begin proper profiling of foreigners entering the state. Such measures, he said, would help security agencies monitor movement into and out of the state more effectively.

The Olubadan stressed the need for collective action among governments, security agencies, traditional institutions, and residents to safeguard lives and property across the country.
