Ondo By-election: Police Warn Against Vote-buying, Violence

The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction on vehicular and waterway movement in the Ondo South Senatorial District ahead of Saturday's by-election. The restriction will be in effect from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on election day, with exemptions for those on essential services.

In a statement issued by the police public relations officer, Abayomi Jimoh, the command emphasized that unauthorized movement or any activity that could disrupt the electoral process will not be tolerated. Strict enforcement will be carried out to ensure compliance.

Warning Against Electoral Offences

The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, cautioned political actors, supporters, and the public against acts of violence, voter intimidation, vote-buying, thuggery, or any conduct that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process. Offenders will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.

Security Measures

The command has intensified intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols, and coordinated operations with other security agencies. Adequate personnel have been deployed across the senatorial district to secure polling units, collation centres, electoral offices, and other vulnerable points.

Security operatives will maintain strict surveillance on both land and waterways to prevent unauthorized movement that could compromise the election. The command assured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.
