Police Apprehend Notorious One-Chance Robbery Syndicate in Ibadan Hotel Raid
In a decisive crackdown on criminal activities, the Oyo State Police Command has successfully arrested a gang of suspected armed robbers notorious for operating under the guise of "one-chance" tricycle services. Acting on credible intelligence provided by vigilant residents, law enforcement officers conducted a swift and well-coordinated operation that led to the capture of the suspects while they were lodging at a hotel in the 7UP/Academy area of Ibadan.
Sting Operation Based on Tip-Off Leads to Multiple Arrests
The police operatives, responding promptly to the tip-off, launched a sting operation that culminated in the arrest of six individuals identified as members of the criminal syndicate. The suspects have been named as Kelvin Daniel (21 years old, male), Idris Ramon (25 years old, male), Christopher Solomon (35 years old, male), Mohamed Telim (21 years old, male), Taored Aderibigbe (30 years old, male), and Adekunle Tolani (27 years old, female). This diverse group was apprehended as they attempted to evade detection by hiding at the hotel location.
Recovered Items Link Gang to Series of Robberies
During the raid, police recovered substantial evidence linking the suspects to their illicit activities. The items seized include eighteen different mobile phones, which are believed to have been stolen from victims, one Opay ATM card, one National Identification Number (NIN) card, and a tricycle with registration number OYO SHK 508 QP. This tricycle is confirmed to have been used as the operational vehicle by the syndicate to carry out their robberies, targeting unsuspecting members of the public and dispossessing them of their valuables.
Confessions and Ongoing Police Investigation
DSP Alayande Olayinka, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the arrests to newsmen and provided further details on the case. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects have confessed to being active members of a criminal syndicate responsible for terrorizing residents across the Ibadan metropolis. Their modus operandi involved using the tricycle to lure victims before robbing them, a tactic commonly referred to as "one-chance" robbery in local parlance.
Olayinka assured the public that the police are committed to a thorough investigation. All suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the ongoing inquiries, with further developments to be communicated in due course. This arrest marks a significant step in the police's efforts to curb armed robbery and enhance public safety in Oyo State, demonstrating the effectiveness of community cooperation in combating crime.
