Onitsha Trader Brutally Murdered by His Own Apprentice in Fegge Home

In a shocking incident that has rattled the commercial city of Onitsha, a local trader identified as Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite was brutally murdered by his own apprentice. The suspect, Chiemerie Anieka, allegedly used a pestle to carry out the fatal attack at No. 2 Enyiuko Street in the Fegge area on February 16, 2026.

"I Was Asleep When He Hit Me": Sister's Harrowing Ordeal

Ogechukwu Success Nwite, the sister of the deceased trader, has provided a chilling account of the events to the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS). She revealed that she was asleep when she suddenly felt a hard object strike her head. Before she could comprehend what was happening, the apprentice struck her again.

"When he attempted to hit me for the third time with what appeared to be a pistol, I grabbed his hand, struggled free, and ran outside to call for help," Ogechukwu recounted from her hospital bed, where she is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.

It was only after escaping that she discovered her brother, Ikechukwu Nwite, lying unconscious in the kitchen, having already been attacked by the same apprentice.

Three-Year Working Relationship Ends in Tragedy

According to Ogechukwu, Chiemerie Anieka had been living and working with her brother for approximately three years. She expressed profound disbelief at the violent turn of events, stating she was unaware of any major conflicts between the two.

The only recent incident she recalled was her brother scolding the apprentice for a mistake made at their shop. She emphasized that this seemed like a minor issue that should never have escalated to such extreme violence.

Family Grieves as Investigation Intensifies

Family sources have disclosed that Ogechukwu remains unaware of her brother's death, with medical staff restricting her internet access to prevent her from learning the tragic news prematurely.

Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities have taken swift action. The suspect is currently in police custody, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for comprehensive investigation.

This tragic incident has raised serious concerns about apprentice-employer relationships and workplace safety in Nigeria's bustling commercial centers. The community awaits further developments as investigators work to uncover the full circumstances behind this brutal attack.
