Oyo Police Apprehend Armed Robbery Suspects with Toy Pistol in Bodija

In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, the Oyo State Police Command has successfully arrested three individuals suspected of armed robbery, recovering a toy pistol and multiple mobile phones during a routine operation. The incident underscores the vigilance of police personnel in combating criminal activities within the state.

Details of the Arrest and Recovery

On April 6, operatives attached to the Bodija Market Division were conducting a standard stop-and-search duty along Awolowo Road in Bodija, Ibadan. During this operation, they intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BDJ 386 QH. The motorcycle was ridden by Godwin Cletus, a 26-year-old male, and carried two pillion passengers: Adedokun Isah, aged 17, and Rafiu Usman, aged 19. All three suspects are residents of the Gbaremu area in Ibadan.

Acting on reasonable suspicion, the police conducted a thorough search of the suspects and their belongings. This search led to the recovery of a toy pistol concealed in a black bag, along with six different mobile phones found in their possession. The discovery of these items raised immediate concerns and provided substantial grounds for their arrest, as it strongly indicated potential involvement in criminal enterprises.

Confessions and Ongoing Investigation

Confirming the arrest to journalists, the command's spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to engaging in robberies targeting unsuspecting members of the public. They admitted to dispossessing victims of their valuables, with their confessional statements offering valuable leads that are bolstering ongoing investigative efforts.

DSP Olayinka emphasized, "Consequently, the suspects have been taken into custody, while a comprehensive investigation has commenced to determine the full extent of their criminal operations and to identify other possible accomplices within their network." This proactive approach aims to dismantle any broader criminal networks and enhance public safety in the region.

The arrest highlights the effectiveness of routine police patrols and the importance of community vigilance in preventing crime. Authorities are urging residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to help maintain security across Oyo State.
